Who We Are

The Coalition for 21st Century Medicine represents some of the world's most innovative diagnostic technology companies, clinical laboratories, researchers, physicians, venture capitalists, and patient advocacy groups -- all linked by a common mission to develop advanced diagnostics that improve the quality of healthcare for patients.

Coalition Background

The potential for advanced diagnostics to help patients has yet to be fully realized. This is due in large part to the widespread perception by many companies and investors that the costs, risks, and barriers associated with diagnostic development outweigh the anticipated returns. Thus, private investment in diagnostics pales in comparison to that in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry. However, new advances in technology and genomic information are rapidly changing the commercial diagnostic landscape and opening up new opportunities for advanced diagnostic tests.

The Coalition for 21st Century Medicine believes that continuous diagnostic innovations are necessary to assure that timely and accurate information is available when decisions regarding diagnosis, prognosis and therapy need to be made. Government policies will play a crucial role in such diagnostic innovation and have the potential either to slow innovation or to help lower diagnostic risks and barriers.

The Coalition for 21st Century Medicine works with policy makers to maintain the balance between regulation and innovation. We work to ensure that regulatory policy promotes rapid access to new diagnostic information while permitting patients and their physicians to obtain accurate and reliable information about these tests.
